Long title

A Bill to amend the law relating to football banning orders and their enforcement; to confer further powers on the Football Licensing Authority and to amend its name; and for connected purposes

Summary

The Police, Public Order and Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2006 introduced football banning orders in Scotland based on, but not identical to, those in England and Wales. Key areas
  • This Bill would harmonise football banning order legislation across the UK so that banning orders imposed in England and Wales are recognised in Scotland and Northern Ireland
  • It would also reconstitute the Football Licensing Authority as the Sports Grounds Safety Authority. The Safety Authority would have new advisory functions enabling it to provide advice on safety at sports grounds to national and international bodies and individuals.
