EUROPEAN CONVENTION ON HUMAN RIGHTS
Darren Jones has made the following statement under section 19(1)(a) of the Human Rights Act 1998:
In my view the provisions of the Ministerial Salaries (Amendment) Bill are compatible with the Convention rights.

Be it enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Ministerial salaries
In paragraph 2 of Part 5 of Schedule 1 to the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 (maximum number of salaries that may be paid in respect of certain Ministerial offices)—

[page 1: line 5] (a) in paragraph (a) (Secretaries of State), for “21” substitute “22”;

(b) in paragraph (b) (Secretaries of State and Ministers of State), for “50” substitute “54”;

(c) in paragraph (c) (Secretaries of State, Ministers of State and Parliamentary Secretaries), for “83” substitute “94”.

Extent, commencement and short title
-
(1) This Act extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

(2) This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed.

(3) This Act may be cited as the Ministerial Salaries (Amendment) Act 2026.
