Require the Secretary of State to conduct a review into the risks associated with at-home early medical abortions; and for connected purposes.
B e it enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
The Secretary of State must make arrangements for a review into the medical
risks to women of taking self-administered medication prescribed by a
registered medical practitioner with the intention of terminating a pregnancy
away from clinical settings.
The review conducted under subsection (1) must include consideration of—
any dangers to health,
any risk of coerced abortion, and
the consequences of the implementation of section 178 of the Health
and Care Act 2022, in particular in relation to the ending of the
requirement for a registered medical practitioner to examine a pregnant
woman in person in order to verify the gestational age of pregnancy.
Within a period of six months beginning with the day on which this Act is
passed, the Secretary of State must publish and lay before Parliament a report
on the findings of the review conducted under
subsection (1)
and the actions
they intend to take as a result.
This Act extends to England and Wales only.
This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed.
This Act may be cited as the At-Home Early Medical Abortion (Review) Act
2024.
