In section 11(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (interpretation of sections 4 to
10), the
definition of “the prescribed limit” is amended as follows.
A
bill

Amend the Road Traffic Act 1988 to lower the prescribed limit of alcohol in relation to driving or being in charge of a vehicle.
B e it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
In section 11(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (interpretation of sections 4 to
10), the
definition of “the prescribed limit” is amended as follows.
“(a)14 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, ”.
“(b)20 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood,”.
“(c)40 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine,”.
This Act extends to the whole of the United Kingdom.
Section 1
of this Act comes into force on such day as the Secretary of
State
may by regulations made by statutory instrument appoint.
This section comes into force on the day on which this Act is passed.
This Act may be cited as the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Alcohol Limits)
(Amendment) Act
2022.
